However, a live in caregiver application should provide a solid starting point for finding the right person for the job.

Most applications begin with basic contact information. Like most applications, typical caregiver applications include spaces for education history and job experience. Though applicants may have experience in many different industries, it is most important for the applicants to include experience related to the health care industry when applying for a caregiver position.

Volunteer experience should be included with work experience especially if the volunteer experience was related to health care. The applicant may want to include other volunteer experience since many employers appreciate volunteers and may look at that history as favorable.

For caregivers filling out the application, the required information should be filled out completely. If the caregiver application asks the applicant to list skills or hobbies, the applicant should remember the job description and list any hobbies or skills that shows that they make a good fit for the position. Including unrelated hobbies or skills is also acceptable and shows that the person has varied interests.

If a person looking to hire a caregiver wants to create an application, an existing application for any job can be used as a basic model. The person could go to a business and ask for an application or look for a sample application on the Internet.

The person making the application may want to add other field to the application that are specifically related to home care like asking whether the person is certified in CPR or has nursing credentials. Whether the person drives their own vehicle would be an important question to include on the application if the job requires that the caregiver transport the person in need of caregiver services.

Some caregiver jobs require a considerable amount of lifting like when bathing or transferring someone in and out of a wheelchair. If the job that the application is being created for would require heavy lifting, the employer may want to include a field on the application asking how much the person can lift.

If the employer is making a caregiver application, the employer should be aware that it is illegal to ask certain questions on an employment application or during a job interview. For example, an applicant cannot be asked about a disability.

Some employers ask for copies of certificates and diplomas. Some jobs require that this documentation is kept on file for all employees. A live in caregiver applicant may want to include copies of any documents that show specialized training such as a copy of a Red Cross CPR and First Aid card that was issued after completing that training.

An applicant should never include original documents with an application or resume. The originals can be taken to the personal interview. Many employers want to inspect the original documentation and make their own copies, but including a copy with the application shows foresight as well as shows the applicant’s achievements.
